For my painting L'Ecole de Paris I asked myself what a cubist schoolroom by Picasso and Braque would look like. Gertrude Stein is the teacher, Gertrude Stein being kissed by Chagall's cow. Through the window one sees Delaunay's Eiffel Tower. Matisse's boy at the piano is joined by Modigliani's girl. I use a pattern derived from Juan Gris for the flow of school desks across the lower part of the painting. (George Deem, 2002).
